Vilamoura is situated on the coast between Quarteira and Albufeira. It belongs to the parish (freguesia) of Quarteira in the municipality (concelho) of Loulé. Together with Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo it forms the so called “Golden Triangle” of the Algarve.

Vilamoura is one of the most prominent holiday and golf resorts in the Algarve, the southernmost region of continental Portugal. The centre has been built around the world famous Vilamoura Marina, the largest recreational port in the Algarve.

Vilamoura has two magnificent beaches that delight everyone who comes to visit them.

Vilamoura Beach, the main beach of Vilamoura, lies to the east of the Marina and stretches until the fishing port of Quarteira. The long sandy beach is flat and has an excellent infrastructure.

Rocha Baixinha / Falésia Beach, to the west of the Marina, is a beach with fine white sand which stretches for over 3 km between the warm, calm waters of the Atlantic Ocean and the dunes and high cliffs with their warm colours; in the background, the tops of the green stone pines and the golf courses. You can walk there along the dunes and cliffs for kilometers until Pine Cliffs near Albufeira. The car parks make it easy to reach the beach on foot and this can be done over a magnificent bridge over the Ribeira de Quarteira and raised walkways, which cross the dunes.

Vilamoura and Rocha Baixinha/Falesia beaches have as a common denominator an unquestionable natural beauty and water quality, and are proudly certified by ISO 14001 (environment) and ISO 9001 (Quality), together with the Blue Flag.

Both beaches are equipped with everything you could possibly need for total comfort: thatched umbrellas, sun loungers, facilities for visitors with limited mobility, beach buggies for wheelchair users, first aid post and showers. There are magnificent restaurants and snack bars overlooking the beach where you can enjoy a light meal, a lunch of fresh fish, a cocktail at sunset or a magnificent moonlit dinner.

The climate is suitable all year round for a visit to the beach, both for bathing during the hot summer months and for walks during the remaining mild months of the year.

Vilamoura Marina

Vilamoura Marina was constructed in 1974. The Marina was the pioneer in Portugal, and over the last four decades has been recognised as one of the best in the world by its customers.

Vilamoura Marina has 825 berths for boats ranging from 6 to 60 meters. Possessing a fully working Boat Yard, Vilamoura Marina can offer maintenance services to its users. Companies may provide upholstery, awnings, cold technique, hull painting, general ship maintenance, brokerage, gel coating, electricity and housekeeping. An International Professional Training Centre is on-site and during the year, events such as the Carnival Regatta and the Boat Show take place.

The Marina in Vilamoura feast in a variety of restaurants that offer Portuguese classics, such as duck rice, steaks and seafood gourmet. There are also some restaurants specialized in international foods. Others make available both authentic Portuguese and international cuisines, and Portuguese dishes with international flavour.

A lot, if not all, restaurants in Vilamoura have very good hosts, usually in the persona of the owners. Customer service is one of a kind, because restaurant staff knows how to make their guests feel very warm and special.

The ambience is also fantastic because Vilamoura restaurants have really nice interior design and well-executed themes. Many restaurants offer a breathtaking view of Vilamoura’s scenic spots, as well as provide a very cosy and intimate atmosphere perfect for romantic dates, family dinners or simple group meals.

Water Parks

TheAquaShow, a water and amusement park situated between Almancil and Quarteira, is the largest of its kind in Portugal and only 10 minutes away from the apartment by car.

Zoomarine is a zoological park, inspired in marine life with a strong component of entertainment, leisure and environmental education. It is located in Guia, Albufeira, 20 km away from Vilamoura.

Other Sports & Leisure

Those looking for water sports will enjoy the facilities and services of Vilamoura Marina, the largest recreational port in the Algarve. The esplanade is flanked by palm trees, and has any number of restaurants, bars and shops. It is the starting point for boat trips along the coast to visit the caves near Albufeira, as well as for excursions to see dolphins and for deep sea fishing trips. A “Sunset Cruise”, an evening cruise aboard a yacht into the setting sun will be a journey to remember.

In the neighboring town of Almancil you find the Almancil Karting fun park, opened in 1992 by legendary Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna, who had a property in Quinta do Lago.

In Vilamoura you can also find a Casino, several pubs and night clubs and a tennis and paddle club (Tennis Academy Vilamoura).

Archaeological Remains & Museum

Archaeological remains suggest that the area was first populated at the time of the Romans. On the low plain of the Ribeira de Quarteira, a stream watering into the Atlantic Ocean west of the place where today the marina of Vilamoura is situated a Roman residential site “Cerro da Vila” has been excavated.  A small museum forms part of this archaeological site.
